F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre Lobby Addition and Expansion, City of Rockville MD
This new lobby addition was built onto the front of an existing 1960's concrete-block auditorium, located on the grounds of the 100-acre Rockville Civic Center park. The project features a broadly curving 18 ft high glass wall extending across the full width of the building. The exposed roof structure consists of 50 ft long glue laminated wood beams supported on heavy timber and concrete columns. The wood beams extend through the glass creating a large overhang at the patron drop off area. A pyramid skylight brings in additional natural light to the gathering space below. The curved entrance canopy and signage are a beacon to the visitors arriving from several different parking areas on the site. A new side corridor addition connects the new lobby to an earlier rear addition by this office.
