The owner of Circle Yoga bought this 1928 masonry apartment building in Chevy Chase, DC to house new yoga teaching studios, a small reception area, retail shop, and changing rooms. The business needed a presence on the commercial street with an inviting storefront and entrance. The existing entry on the side street was moved to the commercial street and celebrated with a metal and glass canopy supported by stainless steel columns. Below the canopy, steps lead down to the entry, cedar trellis along the west facing facade and a Zen garden. Metal panels were applied onto the existing masonry to enliven the facades. The existing structure was completely renovated with new windows and doors, high efficiency HVAC systems, updated interior finishes and brought up to current life safety building codes.
