Pink House, Chevy Chase DC
The existing Spanish style pink stucco house was organized around a 2-story "U"-shaped plan with a central stairwell. A solution was needed to expand the house for a family of six while maintaining formal features of the original layout. The addition and renovation included a large family room, open kitchen and breakfast area on the first floor. The second floor renovation includes the addition of a private study and yoga studio with a stairway up to the observatory dome and south facing roof terrace. The roof terrace and observation room are symmetrically located over the original "U"-shaped structure forming a strong central axis crowned by the dome. The additions, although clearly modern, reflect many of the existing building elements. Deep overhangs with bracketed supports link the old structure the new structure creating a unique playful home.
