United Therapeutics Phase 1, Silver Spring MD

This is the first phase of a 250,000 SF complex of 3 large buildings for a biotech company which focuses on developing chronic therapies for life threatening conditions.  Phase-1 is the smallest building in the complex. A 48,000 SF, 3-story building houses offices and two laboratories with interstitial space above. The primary architectural feature is the curving 3-story channel glass facade on the North face which becomes the backdrop for a interactive public plaza to be built in the Phase-2 of construction. It also creates a translucent curving glass wall for an interior hallway on each floor. Photovoltaic arrays are located on each of the three sloping roofs above the 3rd floor, which house the interstitial space for the Class-100 Clean Room Laboratory below.
